He is Abhimanyu, “son of Arjuna and Subhadra” for more detail check this link : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abhimanyu

I think it is a scene from Kurukshetra Sangram (the Great War between Pandavas and Kauravas) – i am guessing this particular scene captures Pandavas crying over Abhimanyu’s dead body. Abhimanyu is the son of Arjuna and Subhadra (Krishna’s own sister) an excellent warrior – Kauravas use many illegal means to capture and kill him.

Then Who is the child at this painting?

  5. Priya on March 25, 2014 at 7:34 pm

The child is actually, Yamaraja, the lord of death. He is coming to talk to the ladies lamenting over their husband, King Suyagna, who died in a battle there. The story is found in Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 7, Chapter 2, beginning with verse 27: http://vedabase.net/sb/7/2/en2
